Being a single parent. It isn't easy.
A study in Sweden examined children living with single parents. And in comparison to children living in two-parent families in Sweden, children living in single parent settings were:

-More than twice as likely to be diagnosed with depression
-More than twice as likely to commit suicide
-More than twice as likely to become addicted to alcohol
-Three times as likely to become addicted to drugs (girls)
-Four times as likely to become addicted to drugs (boys)
-At increased risk or death and injury from automobile accidents and violence
A few of the possible causes, according to the researchers:
-Parental absence - single parents often work long hours and have less time to spend with children.
-Single parents may not have the same level of parenting skills common in a two-parent family.
-The lack of a father figure for boys or mother figure for girls may impact health and behavior.
